History of Nahargarh Fort

Nahargarh Fort is a very attractive fort of Rajasthan which looks very attractive in the pink city of Jaipur with its yellow colour. Marked with many important historical events, Nahargarh Fort was built by the founder of Jaipur city, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh in 1734.  Along with Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh Fort was also built at a height of 700 ft keeping in mind the security of Jaipur city. The name of the fort was earlier Sudarshan Garh but later it came to be known as Nahargarh Fort. The best thing about this fort is that it has never been attacked in its long history.

However, the fort has been the site of major historical events such as the signing of treaties with the Maratha forces in the 18th century. The fort is also known for sheltering many Europeans during the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. The palace underwent renovation in the year 1868 when Rajaswai Ram Singh built a series of palaces within the Nahargarh Fort. Films like ‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Jodha Akbar’ and ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ have also been shot in Nahargarh Fort.

Architecture of Nahargarh Fort

Nahargarh is a beautiful Indo-European architecture, which has a collection of many beautiful structures inside. When you enter the fort through the entrance gate called “Tadgeet”, you will find a temple dedicated to the rulers of Jaipur on the left side. Let us tell you that there is another temple dedicated to the Rathore prince located on the premises of this fort. Along with this, you will also get to see a “Madhavendra Bhavan” built by Sawai Madho Singh in a complex.

The structure of this fort is a two-story building that was built for the king and his twelve queens. Divided into nine identical apartments, the fort has a lobby, bedroom, toilet, kitchen, and store room. Apart from all this, other palace attractions include the Diwan-e-Aam where the king used to meet his people and listen to their problems and complaints.

Biological Park of Nahargarh Fort

Recently Nahargarh Fort has also been converted into a biological park. Not only will you get to see historical things here, but you can also enjoy seeing different types of animals and birds.

Nahargarh Biological Park is spread over 7.2 square kilometres at the foot of the Aravalli mountain range. It includes the Indian leopard, the Asiatic lion, and the Bengal tiger.

There are about 285 species of birds in this park and the white-haired tit species is exclusive to this area. Apart from this, animals like panthers, hyenas, wolves, deer, crocodiles, Himalayan black bears, and wild boars can be seen in cages. So, if you are a wildlife photographer, this biological park is a great place for you. Nahargarh Biological Park also has a zoo.
